Irene VanBuskirk is a relatively new face in the photography field. She resides in Duncannon, PA. She retired from a 37 year career in education in January of 2013.
Without a formal art education and background, she began her photographic journey by joining the local photography clubs: Perry County Camera Club, the West Shore Photography Club and the Harrisburg Camera Club. She then took private lessons from John Wright and has attended other classes and conferences to strengthen her knowledge of art and photography. Somewhere during this process, she became a photographer.
Good fortune was with her in 2014 when she was awarded first place in the Camp Hill Plein Air Photography Competition.
One strand of Irene’s photography tends to focus on Perry County and the local surroundings.
She is captivated by the beauty in the mundane, whether it is the pattern in a concrete wall, light and shadows of the landscapes, or the textures and patterns of buildings and streets. She enjoys hearing someone say, “I would have never thought to take a photograph of that.”
