This Newport native is an artist of several genres:
Her artistic ventures began while she attended Williamsport Community College. Studying horticulture sparked her interest in the timeless craft of Victorian Pressed Floral Design.
(It's remarkable beauty combined with her love of educating children inspired Karen to teach classes in this creative art. She has continued to teach classes for 25 years.)
In true artistic fashion Karen's creativity has led her to explore other crafts. Just as Rumpelstiltskin "spun straw into gold before dawn", Karen recycles unwanted strips of plastic into amazing crocheted creations.
She learned her skills from her elderly neighbor and dear friend "Miss Pinky". Using plastic instead of cloth inspired Karen to share this concept of recycling.
She founded June Bug City Crafts in the early eighties and demonstrated at annual Earth Day Festivals in the Harrisburg area teaching children of all ages how to save space in our landfills.
When she is not teaching children, Karen prefers to join them in song. Whether performing with her husband, Warren Newman, or by herself as the musically talented KLMN-tine, (Karen Lee Miller -Newman TINE) enlivens the crowd by playing our favorite folk tunes on her guitar.
I am currently self employed as a folk Singer and Craft instructor. I entertain with my guitar as "Sing along with KLMN-tine" and teach my "Kamp KLMN-tine" to Girl Scout Troops, Senior Centers and Elder Care Facilities as well as conducting Summer Camps at The Ned Smith Center for Nature & Art in Millersburg PA
